Sonia Kazovsky

Sonia Kazovsky is an artist, researcher, and dramaturg based in Amsterdam. She earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in Photography from Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and a master’s degree in Art Praxis from the Dutch Art Institute, ArtEZ, in Arnhem. Kazovsky’s practice operates at the intersection of performance, pedagogy, and institutional critique, engaging the theatrical as both a conceptual device and a method for reorganizing social and political imaginaries. She explores how legal, historical, and cultural infrastructures inform lived experience, using dramaturgical tools to render these systems perceptible and open to transformation.

Her work draws on the legacies of emancipatory theatre, role-play, and institutional and political imagination. Recent projects such as The Crisis Game – An Institutional LARP and her upcoming year-long Playground commission at Kunstsammlung K20 Düsseldorf develop play as a political faculty, positioning institutions as spaces of collective inquiry and rehearsal of civic fictions.

Kazovsky designed the Student Representation Platform and its educational trajectory at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Institute, and co-develops long-term frameworks linking education, infrastructural experimentation, and situated publics. Her work has received support from, among others, the Mondriaan Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, and was nominated for the Artist Revelation Prize of ADAGP at MAD (Paris). Her publications and public projects have been presented at platforms including Perdu Poetry Foundation, Van Abbemuseum, Art Rotterdam, Kunstraum Düsseldorf, POST—Platform for Contemporary Art, and the Stedelijk Museum, and are part of the Netherlands National Library collection.
