Crafting Community exhibition during Berlin Art Week 2025

The lauded Crafting Community exhibition at Berlin Art Week includes contributions from dieDAS collaborators Yassine Ben Abdallah, Rozana Montiel, Basse Stittgen, and Tatjana Sprick.

On the occasion of Berlin Art Week 2025, the exhibition "Crafting Community" featured works by an international roster of designers and artists—all of whom honor community through exceptionally crafted objects. The exhibition was curated by independent curator and writer Anna Carnick, and presented hand-wrought works that reflect on design and art as vehicles for celebration, preservation, repair, and activism. Composed against the backdrop of this fraught socio-political moment, each object was framed as a potent, poetic offering from maker to community.

Whether uplifting homages to the people who help shape us or critiques of attacks on vulnerable communities, the exhibited pieces serve as a broader call for care and a reminder of our individual and collective power. The narrative-driven works are meticulously crafted testaments to lived experience. At a moment when so many stories and histories are under threat of being silenced or rewritten, these objects speak to ancestral wisdom, pain and perseverance, resistance, revelry and hope. They point to our shared humanity, and exemplify the roles that creativity and making play in both holding up a mirror to the moment and in envisioning new realities.

The exhibition was presented by Bocci and Wilhelm Hallen. The event included contributions from dieDAS Artistic Director Rozana Montiel as well as former dieDAS Fellow Yassine Ben Abdallah, alongside works by talents such as Beatriz Morales, Rooms Studio, mischer'traxler studio, Victoria Yakusha, and others. Additionally, Basse Stittgen, another former dieDAS Fellow, led hands-on making workshops for children and young adults. dieDAS Director of Program and Development Tatjana Sprick served as Exhibition Producer. dieDAS was pleased to
support, in part, the presentations of Ben Abdallah and Montiel.
